One of the inner assignments I continue to work on is accepting my self-worth based on the simple fact that I am. Not on what I do or don’t do, but on being. It is a gift, this truth that we are everything we need to be already, simply for the fact of our creation and salvation, by God’s grace.
Genesis 1:27 God created human beings; he created them godlike, reflecting God’s nature.
Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not from you; it is the gift of God, it is not from works, so no one may boast.
Owning this fact isn’t always easy to accept. All I have to do is surrender to God…
Jeremiah 29:11-13 “I’ll show up and take care of you as I promised and bring you back home. I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for. When you call on me, when you come and pray to me, I’ll listen. When you come looking for me, you’ll find me. Yes, when you get serious about finding me and want it more than anything else, I’ll make sure you won’t be disappointed.”
But surrender? How do you DO that? Well, it takes practice to recognize my being in God, because there is a lot of gunk over my eyes.
1st Corinthians 13:12 We don’t yet see things clearly. We’re squinting in a fog, peering through a mist. But it won’t be long before the weather clears and the sun shines bright! We’ll see it all then, see it all as clearly as God sees us, knowing him directly just as he knows us!
Practice may be considered a doing, which can become another ego-function! Ugh. But with God-centered intention, “practice doings” will bring awareness of God-being, and God will flow his plans through me according to HIS blueprint.
Proverbs 16:3 Commit your works to the Lord and your plans will be established.
Through recognizing my being in God, my oneness and inner divine, I may be moved to do the dharma laid out for me, for nothing more than the love of God and others. That “being” said, I wonder if I fear failing God’s purpose for me, so I hide from it under ego-ED. I fear forgetting the I-AM inside of me, and “being” into a pattern of doing-to-be rather than being-to-do.
Acts 17:28 ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’
Ego needs to esteem itself. My need is to enjoy the benefits of having God’s presence intensely close and flowing through me. With that, doing may come, but in God’s control.
Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Someday…I’ll get it. These Bible verses serve as strong reminders.
John 14:20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.
Who are you being today?

One of my favorite verses — “Mostly what God does is love you.” ~ Ephesians 5:1 MSG
Have you heard of Beth Moore’s Inheritance series? We just watched it in my small group this spring, and it’s all about our inherent heiress statuses in Christ — something that we do nothing to earn and God does everything to give. Amazing.
